Edna O’connor


OXFORD – Edna Marjorie Carter O’Connor, of Oxford, passed away on Feb. 26, 2010 at Gilmour Health Care Facility, Norwich.
She was born June 19, 1919 in Ellenburg Center, a daughter of Edward and Hazel (Dominic) Carter. She married Paul Joseph O’Connor on December 26th, 1940 in St. Joseph’s Church, Oxford.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Kelly O’Connor of Oxford, and Paul J. O’Connor Jr. and Marigene O’Connor of Jacksonville, Fla.; her grandchildren, Daniel Patrick, Katherine Lynn, Shannon Lynn, JP, and Brighid. She is also survived by a brother, Marv Carter and wife, Bea, Binghamton; sisters, Stella Anthony, Syracuse, Doris Camp, Owego and Mary Ellen Parsons of Guilford. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins and very dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul in 1993; and by three sisters, Medora Shapley, Marie Oliver and Barbara Fink.
She was involved in the management and operations of the family business, O’Connor’s Grill, for 45 years (mid 1930s-late 1970s). She was a devout member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Oxford. A typical day for her was spent saying the rosary on behalf of other loved ones. Her love for family and friends were predominating in her life. Her numerous acts of kindness were well known throughout the community. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday with family, friends and community members that she adored and that adored her. Saint Patrick’s Day will not be the same without her.
A Funeral Mass will be offered by Rev. Thomas I. Ward on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Oxford. Burial will be in the spring in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends called at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, on Sunday from 3-5 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to either Hospice of Chenango County or St. Joseph’s Church.
