Francis E. Markiewicz


EARLVILLE – Francis E. Markiewicz, 77, of Fayette St., passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 at the VA Medical Center, Syracuse.
He was born June 1, 1932 in Norwich, a son of the late Francis A. and Elma Hodge Markiewicz and was a graduate of Sherburne High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1952 during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in Japan serving as a Morse Code interpreter, and was honorably discharged in 1955. On June 30, 1957, Francis married Ruth E. Scheer in Norwich. He was a truck driver for Canastota Contractors Inc. (CCI) in Canastota until his retirement.
Francis was a member of the Earlville Fire Department and the American Legion Post #236 of Earlville. He loved hunting, fishing, bowling, golf and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth; his children, Douglas Markiewicz, Joseph and Susan Markiewicz, all of Earlville; James Markiewicz of Burnham, Maine; twin granddaughters, Amanda and Samantha Markiewicz of Earlville; two grandsons, Joshua and Benjamin Markiewicz of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his step-father, Glenn T. Foster; and three step brothers, Glenn F. Foster, Larry L. Foster and Norman T. Foster.
In keeping with his wishes, services will be private at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Earlville Fire Department; the Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, 3962 S. Delaware St., Englewood, CO  80110; or to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlvillle.
