SHERBURNE – Flora M. “Pete” Palmer, 84, of Sherburne, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Brisben in March of 1925, Pete was the daughter of William A. and Minerva Felt Ashcraft Sr. She attended the South Plymouth country school before finishing her education in the Norwich school system. Pete lived in the Poolville area from the mid 1940s through the 1970s, when she relocated to Sherburne, continuing to make he home there through her final years. A kind-hearted lady who worked as a home health care aide in the Sherburne/Smyrna/Hubbardsville areas, Pete just loved little kids and the elderly, feeling that they were the ones who needed to be cared for. Petite and “cute,” Pete was well liked and had made many friends through her caring ways.
Pete is survived by her children and their spouses: Rebecca and Stephen Sabin of Sherburne, Aleisa Southern of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Ted and Vicky Martin of North Carolina; by her brother, George S. Ashcraft of South Plymouth; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers, William Ashcraft Jr., Harry Ashcraft and his wife Freida, and her sister-in-law, Ileana Ashcraft.
Funeral services for Pete will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. George Gallandorm, pastor of the Sherburne United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the South Plymouth Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
