WILLIAM J. WEINELL


SHERBURNE - William “Jeff” Weinell, 65, of Furman Mills Rd., passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY.
He was born February 3, 1955 in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Brentwood, LI, a son of the late William “Bill” and Patricia Fitzgerald Weinell. He was a graduate of St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in Brentwood and SUNY Oneonta with degrees, including Masters, in Economics and Business, Education and Mathematics. He had also taken courses at SUNY Binghamton. Jeff was a jack of all trades, working in several occupations over his lifetime. He was a lecturer at SUNY Oneonta, taught math for a brief time at DCMO B.O.C.E.S. in Norwich as well as Sherburne-Earlville High School and Oxford Academy. He also owned his machinist company, CNJ Machines in Sherburne.  He had a marvelous work ethic and always enjoyed keeping busy. His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy and will miss hearing him say when asking how he was, “I’m so good it’s got to be illegal” and “Terrible! I’m old and I’m still not rich.”
Jeff was a communicant of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his children, Jonathon (Betsy) Weinell; Matthew (Sophie) Weinell; Carolyn (Adam) Palm; Sarah (Geoff) Pierce; Jeffrey Weinell; Paul (Chelsea) Krieg; Christopher Weinell; Hannah Weinell; Caitlin Weinell; and Meaghan Weinell; brothers, Chris (Lani) Weinell and Tom (Annette) Weinell; 17 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jim and John Weinell.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Malachy’s Church, Sherburne followed by interment in St. Malachy’s Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Sunday, November 1, 2020 from 2-4pm.
The rosary will be recited privately prior to calling hours.
