Dr. Joseph Hover


NORWICH – Dr. Joseph W. Hover, 87, of Norwich, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford.
Joe was born on Nov. 6, 1922, in Hamlin, Pa., the son of Reginald Willis Hover and Viola Mae Cole Hover. He was a graduate of Binghamton North High School, Class of 1941 and Palmer College of Chiropractic, Class of 1964. He was a United States Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific during World War II, worked with the New York State Police for over nine years, achieving the rank of corporal, and also worked with the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for several years. Dr. Hover operated his chiropractic practice in Norwich from 1964 to 1986 and in Marathon from 1991 to 2001. He was a member of Lincklaen Center Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where he served as deacon, elder, and head elder, and was a very active former member of the Norwich Masonic Lodge F and AM, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star 367.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Vera Jean Hover of Norwich; daughters Kathy and Ed Crager of Southern Shores, N.C., Pat and Jerry Collier of Norwich, and Cindy and Gary Roach of Greene; six grandchildren: Kim and Ted Briggs of Lebanon, Pa., Dr. Michael and Gina Barvinchack of Hagerstown, Md., Christopher and Bridget Collier of Tallahassee, Fla., Nicholas Collier of Norwich, Brian Roach of Greene, and Amanda Collier of Norwich; five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. .He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brett A. Barvinchack and his sister, Doris V. Miller.
Funeral services for Joe will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, with Pastor John Portney, Pastor of the Lincklaen Center Seventh-Day Adventist Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com or at fahyfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New York State Veterans’ Home, Resident’s Fund, 411 State Highway 220, Oxford, NY 13830, “in memory of Dr. Joseph Hover.”
