Harry Nice


SHERBURNE – Harry R. “Pete” Nice, 85, of Casey Rd., died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 as the result of a motor vehicle and ATV accident at his home.
He was born March 14, 1924 in Newtown, Pa., a son of Harry and Mildred Tomlinson Nice and received his education in local schools. He was married to Helen Smith in Lambertville, N.J. in 1957. Harry had worked on the family farm before joining the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a long-haul truck driver for several years for Keebler and U-Haul Trucking in Pennsylvania. Later, he worked for the Sherburne-Earlville School District as a bus driver and mechanic for 16 years until his retirement in 1994. Following that, he was a courier for several area car dealerships. Harry was an outdoorsman who enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling, hunting and camping. He also enjoyed flying and had owned his own plane at one time.
Surviving are his loving companion of 32 years, Shirley Hotaling; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and John Sine of Lambertville, NJ; a son, Russell Nice of Vernon Center; Shirley’s children, Jane Beck of Vernon and Julie Marshall of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Michael Jenne, Jeffrey Ernestine and Casey Marshall. He was predeceased by a sister, Kathryn.
In keeping with Harry’s wishes, there will be no services or calling hours.
Interment will be private at the convenience of his family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
