Catherine Jones


NORWICH – Catherine L. “Cathy” Jones, 74, of Norwich, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 5, 2010, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.
Born in New York City in December of 1935, Catherine was the daughter of Denis and Catherine Kilcolm Lavin. She attended grammar school at Our Lady of Angels in the Bronx and was a 1953 graduate of the St. Vincent Ferrer High School. Catherine and her husband of 53 years, Norman Jones, were married in New York City on Feb. 9, 1957. She began her working career in Norwich with Victory Markets, then took employment in 1957 with Norwich Pharmaceuticals, continuing with its successors until her retirement in 1991 from the Quality Assurance Dept. Catherine enjoyed both reading and knitting. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were very important to her.
Catherine is survived by her husband, Norman Jones of Norwich; her children and their spouses: Michael and Pamela Jones of Norwich and Patricia and Brian Blood of Preston; and her grandchildren: SSG Sarah Blood of Ft. Leonardwood, Mo., Samantha Blood of Endwell, Monica Blood of Preston, Meryl Johnson and husband Jeremy of Syracuse, and Dayna Waltz and husband Darren of McDonough. Also surviving are her great grandchildren: Kadance and Keegan Waltz, Taylor Blood, Daphney Frank, and Liam Johnson; her sisters, Alice Lavin of the Bronx and Patricia Lavin of Northglenn, Co., and nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Catherine at a later date, to be announced, from St. Paul’s Catholic Church. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions for Catherine may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
