Mary Storch


NORWICH – Mary S. Storch, 95, formerly of Chenango Avenue, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 at Lourdes Hospice in Binghamton. She had been, most recently, a resident of the Hilltop Retirement Community in Johnson City.
Born May 29, 1911 in Norwich, Mary was the daughter of Frank and Johanna Scanlon. She graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1929 and then received training to become a nurse. She attended business school and became an executive secretary for what was then Victory Chain, retiring in 1954. Following her retirement, Mary was secretary for the Girl Scouts and also worked for Drs. Norman Lyster Sr. and Jr.
On June 19, 1954 in St. Paul’s Church, Mary married George Storch. George passed away on Dec. 28, 1989. George and Mary very much enjoyed a trip to Ireland together following their retirement. Mary was a member of the Church of the Holy Apostle St. Paul.
She is survived by three step-daughters, Joanne Shultis of Spring, Texas, Carolyn O’Malley of Henrietta, and Nanette Liberatore of Tacoma, Washington; a step-son, George Storch and his wife, Anna, of Sullivan, Ohio and three nieces, Nancy Clark, Sharon Jones and Pat Holloway. Twenty-one grandchildren, several great grandchildren and some great-great grandchildren also survive. Mary was predeceased by a step-daughter, Mary Bullock and a sister, Cecile Jones.
A Mass of Resurrection for Mary will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Church of the Holy Apostle St. Paul. Friends are invited to call on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Marian Chapel at the church. Burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
