Verna Brown


CINCINNATUS – Verna R. Brown, 99, of Cincinnatus, passed away on Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at the home of her daughter in Cincinnatus.
Mrs. Brown was born in Hanbury, Canada, on Aug. 15, 1910, a daughter of the late George and Mary Hetherington Doupe. A resident of this area since 1925, she was a member of the Pharsalia Methodist Church. On June 25, 1930, she married Earl Brown who predeceased her on July 19, 1992. Having a wonderful sense of humor, Mrs. Brown touched many lives during her lifetime but her favorite love of all was her family whom she taught to love unconditionally.
She is survived by her sons, Paul David Brown of Cortland, Anthony Brown of Norwich, and Ronnie Brown of Cincinnatus; her daughters, Jane White of Oxford and Cathy (William) Tei of Cincinnatus; her daughters-in-law, Wilma Brown of E. Freetown, Ginny Brown of S. Plymouth, and Janette Richer of Norwich; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Chauncey of Bainbridge.  She also leaves behind 24 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, 31 great-great-grandchildren; a cousin, Laura Hobbs of Canada; many nieces and nephews, including, Amos, Gary, Lauren and LaVerne Doupe.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by sons, Robert, Rodney, Mark, Clifford, and George; sisters, Ella Doupe and Cora Coler; brothers, Edward, Harry, and Russell Doupe; daughters-in-law, Charlene and Bessie Brown; a son-in-law, Malcolm White; three great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with her nephew, Reverend Dr. Gary Doupe and Reverend James Hundley officiating. Burial in Pitcher Cemetery will be delayed until the spring. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
