John Grewe


McDONOUGH – John E. Grewe, 81, formerly of McDonough and Norwich, passed away on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, in the New York State Veterans’ Home of Oxford, where he had recently made his home.
The son of Julius and Norma Mathews Grewe, John was born in North Pitcher in June of 1928, and grew up in that area while attending the local schools. Following his service to his country in the U. S. Army, John returned home and worked for the Town of McDonough for a short time; but his major employment was with Suit Kote Paving and Blacktopping of Binghamton. He married Naioma Parker in Norwich on Aug. 26, 1955. After living for over 30 years in McDonough, John and Naioma moved to Norwich in 2004 where he resided until his health mandated his move to the Veterans’ Home.
John is survived by his wife, Naioma Grewe of Norwich; by his children and their spouses: Cathy and Jim Morton of Colorado, Raymond Grewe of Florida, James and Diane Grewe, also of Florida, Timothy and Wendy Grewe of North Carolina; by his sisters: Doris Sayles of East Pharsalia and Jan Berch of PennYan; and by 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. John was predeceased by his son, Philip Allen Grewe, and by his sisters and brother, Delia Wilcox, Doranne McGarion, and Walter Grewe.
Graveside services with military rites will be held for John at a later date from the North Pitcher Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
