Norman Palmiter Jr.


SHERBURNE – Norman F. Palmiter Jr., 55, of South Main St., passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at the M.I. Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
He was born Dec. 25, 1950 in Norwich, a son of Norman F., Sr. and Donna Whitney Palmiter, and was a graduate of Sherburne High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era in Japan. Norm was employed by the Village of Sherburne. He had formerly been an award winning Produce Manager for Victory Markets/Great American Food Stores for 27 years. Norm enjoyed camping and canoeing, and had taken camping trips to Stillwater for many years. He was also an accomplished bowler.
Norm was a very active Life Member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne, where he was a Past Commander and had held various other offices. He was an honorary inactive member of the Sherburne Fire Department, and had held several offices there.
Surviving are his brothers and sisters-in-law: Whitney and Jane Palmiter, David and Celia Palmiter, Vern and Nancy Palmiter, all of Sherburne; sisters and brothers-in-law: Beth Ann and Robert Foreman of Salisbury, N.C.; Deborah Sutherland, Diane and Thomas Weinheimer, Viola “Gert” and Donald Neubauer, Peggy and James Jeffrey, all of Sherburne; aunts and uncles, Marmie and Bunny Tarbell of Sherburne; Jeannine Palmiter of Edmeston; Elizabeth and Russell Todd of New Berlin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father on Sept. 8, 1998, and his mother on March 18, 2006. Two nephews, Christopher Palmiter and Jason Tyler Foreman, and an uncle, Dale Palmiter also predeceased him.
In keeping with Norm’s wishes, interment with military honors will be at the convenience of the family.
Norm’s family will receive friends at the American Legion Post, South Main St., Sherburne to celebrate his life on Sunday, Oct. 22, from 2-6 p.m.
