Edith Rogers


SOUTH PLYMOUTH – Edith E. Rogers, 85, of South Plymouth, passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
A life-long area resident, Edie was born in North Pharsalia in January of 1924, the daughter of Ernest and Avha Monroe Franklin. She attended school in both South Plymouth and Norwich, and married George Rogers in North Pharsalia on Nov. 3, 1941. An employee of the M. H. Fishman Company for 16 years, Edie later worked for 11 years for Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals and its successors, retiring in 1984 from Procter & Gamble. She was also the owner, operator of her own place, Edie’s Diner, which was located at Woods Corners. A quiet lady who always had a pleasant smile, Edie enjoyed her family and collecting dolls.
Edie is survived by her son and his wife, David and Beverly Rogers of Plymouth; by her sisters, Bessie Somers and Betty Somers and husband Lewis, all of South Plymouth; and by her grandchildren and their spouses: Amy and Tom Donnison of Sherburne, Sherri Hill of Plymouth, Debbie and Kevin Thompson of Plymouth, Karen Rogers of Sherburne, Brian Rogers of Sherburne, Dale and Shelly Rogers of Plymouth, and Marc Rogers and companion Jackie Sayles of Plymouth. Also surviving are 13 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Edie was predeceased by her husband, George, on June 7, 2006; and by her sister and brothers: Lena Edwards, Grover Calvert, and Sidney Calvert.
Memorial services for Edie will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday from the Canasawacta Valley Free Methodist Church. The Rev. Neil Bendixen, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the South Plymouth Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
