Sophie Jeffrey


SHERBURNE – Sophie Mary Jeffrey, 82, of East Street North, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
She was born July 12, 1924 in Smyrna, a daughter of Joseph and Sarah Janiszewska Blaszczyk and received her education in local schools. On May 8, 1948, Sophie was united in marriage to Donald F. Jeffrey at St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne. A life-long area resident, Mrs. Jeffrey had worked for the Utica Knitting Mill in Sherburne, GLA in Norwich, and then for Norwich Pharmaceuticals until her retirement. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading and spending time with her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her entire family.
Sophie was a communicant of St. Malachy’s Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Quarter Century Club of Norwich Pharmaceuticals.
Surviving are her husband, Donald; her children and their spouses, Michael and Karen Jeffrey of Friendswood, Texas, Kathleen and Richard Barden of Greene; grandchildren, Kelly and Russell Wark of Smithville Flats; Kurt Davis and Catherine Carlson of Greene; Neil and Lauren Jeffrey of Pearland, Texas; Galen Jeffrey of Friendswood, Texas; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Agnes and David Barrett of Sherburne; Jessie Cieslak of Marcy; brothers-in-law Robert (Nora Jane) Jeffrey, Charlie (Sandy) Jeffrey, all of Sherburne; sister-in-law, Ruth Jeffrey of Sherburne; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Albert Schroer; a brother, Joseph Blaszczyk; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wallace and Frances Newman Jeffrey; brothers-in-law, Eugene Cieslak and John Jeffrey; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Jeffrey.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Malachy’s Church, East State St., Sherburne.
Burial will be in St. Malachy’s Parish Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 1:45 p.m. Friday.
