Harold B. Newton

Harold B. Newton, 86, of Pharsalia, NY, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at his daughter’s home in Syracuse, NY, with his family by his side.
Born in Cortland, NY, on May 28, 1932, Harold was the son of the late Orton and Orah Preston Newton. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of the Pharsalia and South Otselic United Methodist Church. A 1950 graduate of Cincinnatus Central School, he was proud to be a sixth-generation dairy farmer in Pharsalia where he owned and operated the Balsam View Farm, a NYS Bicentennial farm. He was a past director of the Chenango Co. Chapter of the NY Farm Bureau, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Agway, and SNB Co-op. Harold had a lifelong affection for learning, and relished the simple pleasures in life – sunsets and star-gazing, walks in the woods, leisurely car rides and family hay rides. However, his passion was his grandchildren and his cows.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Donna Pixley Newton; and his five children, Timothy (Laura) Newton of Endicott, Kevin (Joan) Newton of Victor, April (Jim) Dolan of Syracuse, Cindy (Mike) Harrington of Walton, and Brian (Heidi) Newton of Pharsalia. He also leaves behind a sister, Evelyn Glavebrook of Des Moines, IA; 15 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Sunday, November 11, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the South Otselic United Methodist Church on Monday at 1:00 p.m. with his pastor, Reverend Carl Johnson and Jeanne Angell officiating. Burial will be in Wayside Rest Cemetery, Pharsalia, at a later date. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Harold may be made to the Newton Memorial Fund, c/o NBT Bank, 1310 North Street - Suite 1, Endicott, NY 13760 or by visiting any NBT Bank.
