Edward H. Scoville


Edward H. Scoville, Sr., 77, of S. Plymouth, NY, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, NY, while surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was born in Cortland, NY, on January 28, 1941, the son of the late Donald and Florence Eaton Scoville.

His dad passed away early in his life and he was raised by his mother and stepfather, J.D. Livermore.

He was an avid horse lover and worked as a farrier for 40 years. He continued to share his knowledge and love of horses with his children, grandchildren, and friends.

Ed was a lifetime member and past president of the NYS Pony Pulling Association and also served as an auctioneer at the pony club.

He was a board member of Arc of Madison Cortland and served as co-chair on their residential and incident committees and was honored by Arc when he received their humanitarian award. Ed was also a member of the Cincinnatus Fire Department.

He is survived by his children, Edward Howard (Debbie) Scoville, Jr. of Cortland, Michelle Jorgensen of Oxford, and Melinda (Blaine Burlingame) Rigo of Brooktondale; his life partner and soulmate, Rose Cook of S. Plymouth; and stepsons, Christopher Cook of Norwich, Kevin (Erma) Cook of FL, and John (Kim) Carhart of Utica. He also leaves behind a brother, Donald (Uzella) Scoville of Cincinnatus; and a sister, Cynthia (Irv) Potter of Texas Valley; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents and stepfather, he was also predeceased by a son, Craig Scoville in 2012; a brother, Roger Livermore in 2008; a son-in-law, Michael Rigo in 2002; and a stepdaughter, Kimberly Lillie in 1989.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating.

Burial will be in Pitcher Cemetery with Rev. Palmer Neumeister officiating. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Ed may be directed to Arc of Madison Cortland, 701 Lenox Avenue, Oneida, NY 13421.
