Genevieve A. Grewe


Genevieve A. (DeVaudreuil) Grewe, 90, of North Pitcher, NY, passed away peacefully at the Cortland Park Nursing Center, Cortland, NY, on Friday, October 19, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Ware, MA, on May 30, 1928, Mrs. Grewe was the daughter of the late Archer and Anna Mitchell DeVaudreuil.

A longtime resident of the area, she was a member of the South Otselic United Methodist Church.

She married Walter Grewe on June 24, 1945 and together they shared 56 years, 5 months, and 12 days as husband and wife until his death on December 6, 2001.

At one point in her life, in addition to raising her own children, she provided care to 15 foster children. Mrs. Grewe loved her flowers, animals, the outdoors, crocheting, and gardening.

She was also an avid collector of owl and bear figurines. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth D. (Sharon) Grewe of Upper Lisle, Sandra L. (Carl) Cole of South Otselic, and Kevin G. Grewe of North Pitcher. She also leaves behind a sister, Evangeline Wilcox of Johnstown; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Truax; a brother, Archie DeVaudreuil; and a half-brother, David Lowe.

Funeral services for Mrs. Grewe will be held at the South Otselic United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. with her pastor, Reverend Carl Johnson, officiating.

Burial will be in North Pitcher Cemetery.

The family will be present to receive friends at the church, prior to the funeral service, on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
