Louis D. Chapman


Louis D. Chapman, 77, a longtime resident of Mt. Upton passed away Sunday morning, July 15, 2018, at the home of his son in Otego.

Louis was born in Rochester, NY on May 16, 1941 the son of Archie and Doris (Brewer) Chapman. At an early age he moved with his family to the Guilford-Bainbridge area where he attended the Bainbridge school.

For the past 48 years he has made his home in Mt. Upton. In 1969 he became employed by the Mt. Upton school district where he became head mechanic and school bus driver from which he retired.

Louis was a hard working man and was fascinated by antiques. For a period of time he operated an antique shop in Guilford where he bought and sold countless items.

If it was old, he collected it, stored it, sold it, even older cars which he would fix up and sell. In his down time he enjoyed working in the garden and enjoyed making his home look nice.

Louis is survived by his sons; Tracey Chapman of Otego, Terry (Bernice) Chapman of Oxford and Timothy (Mariam) Chapman also of Oxford, sisters; Sandy (Jim) Price of Norwich and Nancy (Douglas) Benedict of Guilford and his brother Daniel Chapman of Bainbridge. Also surviving are his grandchildren Felica Smith, James Chapman, Brandon (Aroxis) Chapman, Quinton (Chelsea) Chapman, Teresa (Alex) Brett and Rosi Chapman along with 24 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and the mother of his children Marion Chapman of Deposit.

A funeral service for Louis will be held on Saturday, July 28 at 11:00 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich. Interment will be in the Sand Hill Cemetery of Wells Bridge.

Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday, July 28, from 10-11 a.m.
