H. Brian Holt


H. Brian “Rocky” Holt, 74, of Fayette St., passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at his home with his loving family at his side, after being hospitalized many times.

Brian endured an exhausting battle but was successful in meeting his wish to come home to his family and front porch for a brief time.

He was born March 9, 1944 in Norwich, NY, a son of the late Harold A. and Bernice Excell Holt and was a graduate of Earlville High School.

On August 21, 1987, he married Jacqueline Freeman in Earlville. Brian worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Hamilton for 31 years until retiring in 1991.

Following that, he was a crossing guard for the Sherburne-Earlville school district.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an Elvis fan. He played shuffleboard with the “Traveling Ten” and was a lucky lottery winner.

He loved sports and devoted many years to coaching Little League and Pony League baseball, as well as boy’s baseball and girl’s softball teams in Earlville.

He was an avid fan of the Brooklyn (LA) Dodgers and the Minnesota Vikings.

Brian was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Norwich; Ducks Unlimited, the National Rifle Association; the National Wild Turkey Foundation and the Earlville American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Jackie; his children, Milton (Lori) Holt of Munnsville; Mark Holt of GA; Montgomery “Monty” (Patty) Holt of Norwich; Harold A. Holt II (Barbie Nachtigall) of SD; Heath (Sheila) Hudson of Carthage; Heather Buell of Earlville; Jason (Sherri) Hudson of OH; sisters, JoAnn (Albert) Gray of TX; Janice Holt and Jinene Clark, both of Earlville; Brenda (James) Stone of Sherburne; a brother, John Holt; Warren Dunbar of Canastota; fifteen grandchildren, Madeline, Chan, Kelly, Amous, Chelsea, Justyn, Taylor, Austin, Levi, Victoria, Alexis, Jack, Benjiman, Ashley, and Katelynn; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and two honorary grandchildren, Alex “nurse” and Taylor.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Judy Dunbar and Theresa Holt; three brothers, Barry, Ricky and Rodney Holt; a grandson, Andrew Holt; and a brother-in-law, Alan Clark.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 23, 2018, at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville, followed by interment in the Graham Cemetery, Hubbardsville.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Earlville Fire Department or to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY.
