Roger E. Bliss


Roger E. Bliss, 88, formerly of the German Hollow area and most recently of the Chase Nursing Home in New Berlin, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at the Chase Home.

Roger was born on February 4, 1930 in Plymouth the son of Ivan and D. Frances (Adams) Bliss.

He spent most of his life in the German Hollow area and was a 1948 graduate of the Sherburne High School.

On May 12, 1951 in the Plymouth United Methodist Church he married Marjorie Beckwith who survives.

Farming was Roger’s life. Together he and his wife Marjorie operated their farm in German Hollow for many years.

Over the years they also took in many foster children and gave them a good home and upbringing.

Roger was a member of the Sherburne Grange where he was Master for 25 years.

Throughout his life Roger had been a member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church, No. Norwich United Methodist Church, the Preston United Methodist Church, Sherburne United Methodist Church and New Berlin United Methodist Church.

It goes without saying that Roger enjoyed a good conversation, enjoyed telling stories and reminiscing. He also enjoyed small game hunting with his beagle dogs.

Roger is survived by his wife Marjorie of New Berlin, daughter Charlotte (Jon) Thomsen of So. New Berlin, grandchildren Devon (Emily) Thomsen, Courtney (Magee) Sarpriacone, great grandchildren Dylan Thomsen, Sierra Gregory and Blake and Ayna Sarpriacone. Also surviving is a nephew Ed (Pam) Bliss of Colorado who they enjoyed visiting along with several other nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son Charles Moon, great granddaughter Savannah Thomsen, sisters Lucy Sisson, Esther Bliss, Laura Mathewson and Huldah McNitt and brothers Donald and Ernie Bliss.

A graveside service for Roger will be held on August 17 at 12:00 Noon from the No. Norwich Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are with the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
