Kenneth R. Meade, Jr.


Kenneth R. Meade, Jr, formerly of Norwich and Hamilton passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24, 2017, at the New York State Veterans Home due to complications from Alzheimers.
Ken was born in Norwich on January 1, 1926 the son of Kenneth and Geraldine (Waters) Meade, Sr. Ken spent most of his life in Norwich and was a graduate of the Norwich High School as well a Hartwick College. A veteran of the United States Army he proudly served his country from July of 1944 until his honorable discharge in November of 1945. While making his home in Norwich, Ken had worked for the C&U Telephone Co., operated Coe’s Liquor Store and worked as HR Director for Broome County. His most recent employment was working for several school districts as a negotiator for school contracts. In his leisure time Ken and his wife enjoyed traveling.
On February 26, 1949 in St. Mary’s Church of Oswego he married Pauline O’Leary who passed away June 8, 1989.
Ken is survived by his 7 children Kevin (Maureen) Meade, Tim (Lynne) Meade, Laurianne (Michael) Murray, Kenneth R. (MaryEllen) Meade, III, Matthew (Lori) Meade, Deena (Mark) McNeil and Robert (Laura) Meade, his grandchildren Jennifer (John) Gorman and their children Libby, Josie, Luke and Nate, Brian (Betsy) Meade and their children Cora, Evan and Isaac, Christopher (Basak) Meade, Patrick (Jess) Meade, Jonathan (Erica) Meade, Brianna (Jeffrey) Ketcham and their children Allana Kear and Kylie, Sarah (Josh) Newman and their children Luke, Haley and Joseph Meade. Also surviving are his sisters Catherine Wehrli and Marjorie (Midge) Meade and brother Joseph (Nancy) Meade.
Besides his wife Pauline, Ken was predeceased by his son Mark William Meade.
Ken’s family wants to thank the staff at the New York State Veterans Home, especially The Pine Neighborhood for the kind, loving and gentle care they provided our dad.
A prayer service for Ken will be held on Saturday, July 14, at 11:00 am from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 10-11 am.
