Reta J. (mcgowan) Collier


Reta J. (McGowan) Collier, 89, of Camillus, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 at Finger Lakes Center for Living. Born in Oxford, she moved to Camillus over 30 years ago. Reta attended Oxford Academy and was employed as a bookkeeper/accountant at a variety of Morris area businesses over the years. She was a former member of the Altar Rosary Society at Holy Cross Church in Morris and active in the Morris Central School Distrtict and local community activities involving her children. She was most recently a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Camillus. Reta loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose little voices and smiles gave her much joy.
Reta was predeceased by her husband, Ward, in 2011; son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Jennifer; daughter, Carol Miles; sisters, Inath Hubbard and Sylvia Witchella; and brother, Earl McGowan.
Surviving are her sons, Michael (Cheryl Smith), Patrick (Kathie) and Kevin (Ginni); daughter, Cindy (Jamie) Heath; sisters, Nora Craver, Joyce Powers, June Smith and Ann (Jack) Howard; grandchildren, Patrick (Carolyn), Andrew (Maureen), Kate (Jared), Jef (Miranda), Josh (Karolina), Ashley (Brandon), Matthew, Kendra, Ryan, Chelsea (BJ), Christopher (Jaclyn) and Taylor (Zachariah); seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Finger Lakes Center for Living staff for their loving care and compassion given to Reta.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, July 14 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the church. Burial will be held Tuesday, July 17 at 11 a.m. in Hillington Cemetery, Morris.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hillington Cemetery, Route 23, Morris, NY 13808.
