Charles Vigus Jr.


Charles Vigus, Jr. 93 of Oxford, New York, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather flew with the angels into the arms of the Lord on June 24, 2018 after a long illness. Charles was born in Oxford on December 19, 1924 to Charles Vigus Sr. and Marion Hayes Vigus.

On November 24, 1943 he married Winifred M. Williams, who survives, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Oxford, NY.

He is also survived by his children, Cynthia Jones of Ogden, UT, Ivy Davis and companion (Carl Cummings), Dianna (Dwight) Meade, Charles Edward (Patricia) Vigus, Eugene (Vicki) Vigus, Martha (Walter) West, and Chester (Beverly) Vigus all of Oxford, NY.

He is also survived by special friends Dale and Roxanne Menard along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his sister Rachel Vigus of Cincinnatus, NY. He was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Purdy.

For 30 years he owned and operated a dairy farm in Oxford. He was also a Maple Syrup producer under the auspices of Vigus Enterprises. He served eleven (11) years as Town of Oxford Highway Superintendent.

He also served as zoning officer and assessor for Oxford. He was a member and past president of Oxford Rotary, Chenango County Farm Bureau and the Association of Town Highway Superintendents.

As a hobby he made many wood items for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for the children, i.e.: Faith Chests and furniture pieces for raffle. He was also a strong supporter of the Oxford Historical Society.

At his request there will be no calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church PO Box 72, Oxford, NY 13830 or to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY 13815, or to a charity of choice.

Your worries are over, your work is complete, the tools are hung up and the tractor is in the shed.
