Michael A. Weaver

On Monday, June 25th, 2018, Michael (Mike) Arthur Weaver passed away unexpectedly at his home at the age of 60.

Born May 24th, 1958 in Norwich to the late Gerald (Jerry) and Ruth (Rice) Weaver, where he would grow up and settle down with his family. Norwich would always have a special place in his heart.

He attended Holy Family School until 9th grade and graduated from Norwich High School in 1976, where Mike met many of his best, lifelong friends and was given the nickname “Bender.”

He moved on to obtain a bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University in 1980, and began his career with Simmonds Precision in Norwich.

Over the next 35 years he would rise through the ranks, develop treasured friendships, and flourish through the changes from Simmonds, to BFGoodrich, Unison, and finally GE Aviation.

For the last twenty years, Mike was generous with his time and talent, serving as a volunteer board member for the Chenango Foundation and the Development Chenango Corporation.

His oversight and guidance advanced the initiatives of both organizations, strengthening the economy and improving the quality-of-life in Chenango County.

He’s survived by his wife of 27 years, Robyn (Wilkes) & his sons, Ian Michael & his fiancé Brighid O’Connor of Boston, MA & Alec Gerald of Norwich, brother Bill (Marti) and their children, Karen (Keith) Newsom, Shelly (Brent) DeVille, and Becky (Robert) Helton of Louisiana, two special aunts; Charlotte Caldwell of Norwich, Betty Rice of Oxford, a special cousin & Godmother to Ian; Mary Ann (Dick) Church of Bethel, Vermont, and many more precious cousins and extended family members.

Mike had a lifelong devotion to the New York Giants (for better or for worse), loved a nice glen cairn of Scotch or Whiskey, and savored his wife’s cooking (he wouldn’t dare say otherwise).

He cherished the time spent with others, from the many family vacations, the annual guys Adirondack golf trip, to just sitting in the Adirondack chair in his front yard after mowing the lawn. He truly appreciated every moment of every day.

His love for his wife and sons was immeasurable. As a father, he was their biggest supporter, coach, and mentor, rooting them on from the classroom to the field, and their lives beyond.

He spent countless nights and weekends with his sons on the Cyclone football field, YMCA basketball courts, tee-ball & little league fields, as both a coach and a fan.

Mike’s family meant the world to him and they were his true passion. He was the rock and true caretaker of the family; providing love, happiness, and support far beyond anyone’s expectations.

It is this love and happiness in which he will live on forever – in the hearts of his family, friends, and this community.

Calling hours in memory of Mike will be held on Monday, July 2nd, 2018 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home in Norwich, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mike will be held on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Norwich, followed by an interment at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Mike to the Norwich Cyclones (287 Aurora Drive, Norwich, NY 13815) or to The Chenango Foundation (15 South Broad Street, Norwich, NY 13815) to establish the Michael Weaver Scholarship Fund, which will assist local high school graduates pursuing post-secondary education to further careers in business or advanced manufacturing in Chenango County.
