Walter Charles Boname


Walter Charles Boname was born on June 15, 1933 to Dr. and Mrs. Mat G. Boname of Oxford, NY.

After graduating from Oxford Academy & Central High School , Walter enlisted in the U.S. Army.

He served, as a participant in The Universal Training Program, during the Korean War.

Just after completing basic training at Fort Indiantown Gap, PA, he met Charlotte Tolley at a military dance.

They married on May 21, 1955, and raised their family in Oxford, NY.

Walter was a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union, Local 112 since 1962. He was a foreman on many projects at IBM during his 30 years in the Union.

In his leisure time, Walter was an active member of the American Legion, a Past President of The Oxford Rod & Gun Club, a member of the Lake Ludlow Club, and an an avid golfer, fisherman, and outdoor sportsman.

He also enjoyed cards and billiards. Over his lifetime, he won 1st place in numerous golf tournaments, and in 1972 he caught the award winning small mouth bass in a Thousand Islands Fishing Tournament.

Mr. Boname had a wry sense of humor, laughed easily, and shared his humor and love of dancing with his wife and children.

He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Charlotte Tolley Boname, their sons Walter (2013), David (1958) and a daughter (1967). He is survived by his daughters, Linda Boname Mithaug (Derek), Dr. Mary Boname, grandchildren Lauren Cirenza (Richard) and great-grandsons Lincoln and Theodore, James Cirenza (Krista), Anna Cirenza, daughter-in-law Audrey Block Boname and her daughters Holly and Julia Boname, a sister, Barbara C. Boname, and his nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life is planned at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 34 Main Street Oxford, NY 13830.
