David Mcnitt


David McNitt, 92, of Sherburne, passed away with family by his side at Chenango Memorial Hospital on June 22nd, 2018. David was born on August 19th, 1925 to the late Ralph and Ernestine (Law) McNitt.

David grew up on a dairy farm in Sherburne at the four corners. At the age of 16, he bought milk trucks and delivered milk to creameries around the area.

David met his wife Huldah Bliss during this time. David and Huldah bought and ran dairy farm on German Hollow Road.

During the time owning the farm, David gave his sons cows and they earned their way through school using the money they earned from the cows.

David’s wife Huldah predeceased him in 1969. David sold his farm on the German Hollow Road in 1982 and began working for his son Jim at Gordon Construction. David also drove school bus in between. David was always keeping busy.

After David retired in 1999, he moved to Virginia where he lived for twelve years.

David returned to Sherburne in 2005. In Sherburne, David began restoring old trucks and tractors.

David was very fond of Farmall tractors.

David is remembered as being a wonderful husband, father, and always willing to help anyone in need.

David was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Ernestine (Law) McNitt, his wife Hulda Bliss McNitt, and brothers Edward and Vincent McNitt.

David’s survivors include his wife Katherine McNitt of Sherburne, his children; Ralph (Maggie) McNitt of South Carolina, Jim (Barb) McNitt of Oxford, and Joyce (Clayton) Bunt of Idaho, his stepchildren; Karyn (Mark) Turner of Rochester, Mary Yacano of Sherburne, Teresa (Paul) Jones of Churchville, and Julie (Dave) Coller of Sherburne. David is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be announced at a later time. Arrangements have been entrusted to R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
