Robert L. Slater, 86, formerly of County Rt. 29, Norwich went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2018 at the home of his daughter in Valdese, NC with family by his side.

Robert attended school in Norwich before joining the United States Air Force in April of 1952 where he served his country until his honorable discharge on 1956.

He was employed by GLA and its successor’s from 1959 until his retirement in 1993. He enjoyed many years camping at Oneida Lake and wintering in Florida.

His hobbies were fishing, camping, cards, woodworking and traveling. Robert was predeceased by the mother of his children Marie L. Goodrich, a son Darin Slater, his father Ralph Slater, his mother Sylvia Belle Case, 2 brothers Lawrence and Ralph Slater, Jr., his wife Mildred “Millie” Gilbert Slater and his companion Ruth Brown.

Robert is survived by his sister Janie Come of Lake Wales, FL. His 3 daughters Roberta Morris of Norwich, Terrie (Tom) Owens of Valdese, NC, Sandra (Gary) Follett also of Valdese, NC and his son Robert L. (Crystal) Slater, Jr. of Cushing, OK. Several grandchildren great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside service with military rites for Robert will be held on Friday, June 22, at 2:00 pm from the Mt. Hope cemetery. The Rev Jeremy Stopford will officiate.
