Allie Whaley


SMYRNA – Allie Whaley, 81, life-long resident of German Hollow Road, Smyrna, passed away early Monday morning, Oct. 9, 2006 at his home.
Born Feb. 9, 1925, in Georgetown, Allie was the son of Grant and Grace (Whitmore) Whaley. He grew up on the family farm in German Hollow and spent his entire life in that area. As a youngster, he attended the German Hollow school and the Sherburne schools, and helped on the family farm. In 1957, he took over the operation of the farm from his parents, and continued to live there until his passing. On Sept. 29, 1945, in Norwich, Allie married Bernice Wilkes, and through their 61 years of marriage they worked together to raise their family. Allie was an avid pony-puller, and a member of the NYS Pony Pulling Association for numerous years.
Allie is survived by his wife, Bernice Whaley of Smyrna; by his children and their spouses: Donna Livingston and Gary Eddy of Norwich, Dianna DeLee of Smyrna, David and Debbie Whaley of Smyrna, Steven and Laurie Whaley of Statesville, N.C.; Larry Whaley of Sherburne, Betsy and Brent Barry of Smyrna, Jeffrey and Ceta Whaley of South Plymouth, Rory Whaley and Sharon Enslow of Hamilton, Martin and Theresa Whaley of Camas, Wash.; Lisa and Gus Wills of Guilford, Patsy and Kevin Parsons of Sherburne, Jack and Sherry Whaley of Norwich, and Jody and Margo Whaley of Smyrna. He is also survived by 65 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren; sisters and brothers: Leila Brooks and husband Lewis of Norwich, Ruby Bassett and husband Robert of Smyrna, Maxine Brooks of Eaton, and Grant Whaley and wife Bernetta of Smyrna; and by sisters-in-law: Karolyn and Marie Whaley, and Marian Smith; and by brother-in-law Bob Collier. Allie was predeceased by his sister and brothers: Helen Curns and Herbert, Howard, and Jerald Whaley; by grandchildren Kevin Livingston, and D. Jay, Dodie, and Spencer Whaley; and by son-in-law Lansing DeLee.
Funeral services for Allie will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford, pastor of the Beaver Meadow Christian Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Willcox Cemetery of Smyrna.
Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m.
