Hoyt Fred Adsit Jr.


Fred passed away suddenly on May 11, 2018. Fred was 61.
He was a graduate of Sherburne - Earlville class of “75”.

While in school, he was on the football and wrestling teams. He played sousaphone in the band. Fred was a member of the Sherburne Sharpshooters 4-H club.

He showed calves at the Chenango County Fair in Norwich.

Fred loved the outdoors. Fred would help his dad and his uncle Rodger make maple syrup. He loved fishing with his family at Goose Bay and at Seventh Lake.

Fred trapped muskrats to sell the fur. As a youth, he grew melons in the garden and recently, at his home, strawberries.

Fred loved farming with his brother David except for a couple years when he went on a walkabout in California.

Fred’s greatest love was riding his motorcycle. He made many trips out west by motorcycle and one trip with his brother David to fish in Canada.

Fred led a private life but he will be remembered fondly as playing “Santa” at Christmas.

He is survived by his siblings: Robert Adsit of Sherburne, Louise (Karl) Breckan of Palatine, Illinois, David Adsit of Sherburne and his aunt, Jan Nigolian of Sherburne.

Also surviving are cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Hoyt, Sr. and Clara Adsit and step mother, Nancy.

A memorial service for Fred will be held on Thursday, June 14 at 1 p.m. at R. J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad Street, Norwich, New York. Interment will follow at the North Norwich Cemetery.

Friends may call at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday, June 14 at 12 p.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
