James Wright


James ‘Jim’ Wright, 86 of Norwich passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 after a brief illness. Born in the town of Plymouth on December 9, 1931, the son of George and Alva (Burtis) Wright, he spent many years on the family farm prior to moving to Norwich as a youth.

After graduating from Norwich High School, Jim enlisted in the US Army where he served actively from 1951 to 1953 and as a reservist until 1956.

After leaving the service he was employed by Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals then Proctor and Gamble until he retired after 46 years.

On June 11, 1955 in Norwich he married Crystal Tiffany, who passed away February 15, 2011. They were married for 60 years.

Jim is survived by his children and their families; Nancy Spencer and husband Gary of McDonough, Jim Wright and wife Keri of Norwich, Pati Spencer and husband Dan of McDonough, John Wright and wife Karen of Monroe GA, Lori Nichols and husband Bill of Norwich.

Also surviving are his grandchildren; Rebecca Hensley, Melissa Preston, Sarah Spencer, Travis Spencer, Lora Spencer, Daniel Cook, McKenzie Wright, Abigail Wright, James Wright, Christopher Wright, Kevin Wright, Cristin Brown, Alayna Nichols and several great grandchildren.

Also surviving is his sister Beatrice George of Norwich, sister in laws June (Tom) Wright of Maryland, NY, Beatrice (Ralph) Quincy of Norwich, Jeanette (Francis) Shapely of Norwich, Juanita (Richard) Angle of Oxford, and Nettie Hodge of Palatka, FL. and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Crystal, Jim was predeceased by his brothers, Richard Wright, Edward Wright and Earl Wright, sisters, Dorothy Townsend, Minnie Tefft, Mildred Jones and Mary Schermerhorn.

Jim loved to spend time with his family, he loved being outside and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In later years he put away his gun and brought out a camera and enjoyed bird watching with his wife.

He enjoyed telling stories of growing up on the farm and later as a teenager the antics of roaming all over west hill with his buddies.

He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes with his boys and could be found helping out anyone who needed his help.

A funeral service for Jim will be held on Wednesday, May 30, at 11:00 am from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.
