Robert E. Cleveland


Robert E. “Butch” Cleveland, 58, of County Rd. 24, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 21, 2018 at his home.

He was born April 7, 1960 in Norwich, a son of Floyd “Bill” and Pearl Monroe Cleveland. And was a 1978 graduate of Sherburne High School. Butch was a veteran of the U.S. Army. On May 5, 2014, he married Melissa Dempsey in Sherburne. Butch had worked for Southern Tier Pet Nutrition in Sherburne for many years. He was a avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Chargers. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and barbeques.

Surviving are his wife, Melissa; his mother, Pearl Cleveland of Sherburne; his children, Robert and Shelby Cleveland, Tucson, AZ; Daniel Cleveland, Albany, NY; Thomas Cleveland and his fiancée, Courtney Sullivan, Norwich, NY; Chaylyn, Texas; grandchildren, Aleczandar, Raislyn and Jaxson; step-children, Paula and Shane Crawford, Amber McMullen and fiancé Reilly Hoare, Meghan McMullen and fiancé, Stephen Werneke, and Colleen McMullen, all of Norwich; step-grandchildren, Trelane and Terrendara Crawford; Caden and Riley Russell, Caleb Gray; Stephen Werneke; Bryshaun McMullen; Ella Blackwell; Xavier Miller; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and David Carpenter, Norwich; Catherine Cleveland, Smyrna; Peggy Sue Hughes, Gainesville, GA; twin sisters and their husbands, Bonnie and Michael Clark, Earlville; Barbara and Donald Peek, Sherburne; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are many other step-children and -grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, Floyd.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by burial with military honors in Willcox Cemetery, Smyrna, NY.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from Noon to 2pm prior to the service.
