Anita M. Mikkonen


Anita M Mikkonen, 73, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 29, 2018. She was born on August 24, 1944 in Norwich, New York.

Anita was an avid bowler for many years, participating in several leagues in Norwich. In 1995 she was the first woman in Norwich to bowl a 300 game and was also inducted into the Norwich women’s bowling hall of fame.

On December 11, 1997, she once again set a new standard for local women, becoming the first to roll an 800+ series (300, 277, 241; 33 out of 36 strikes) which included her second 300 game out of 29 career.

She also won a bronze medal at the NYS Empire Games and finished 4th in the Lilac city tournament in Rochester gaining her entrance into the pro-am circuit which she participated in for several years.

She was predeceased by her parents, Angelo & Mary Annesi (Magistro); husband Dr. Daniel D Mikkonen; and sister, Nancy Newkirk, all of Norwich. She is survived by son & daughter-in-law Brian & Ruth Swift of North Norwich; brother & sister-in-law Gennaro & Carol Annesi of Rochester as well as many nieces, nephews & cousins.

Friends & family are invited to attend graveside services and burial at St Paul’s Cemetery, Norwich at 2 pm on May 17, 2018.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney
