William F. Crandall Sr.


William F. (Buster) Crandall Sr., 68, a lifelong resident of the Norwich area, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Norwich Rehabilitation Center.

Buster was born on March 8, 1950 in Norwich the son of Leon and Ethel (Lequay) Crandall. He attended the Norwich schools and in March of 1968 joined the United States Marine Corp where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in March of 1972.

Buster was a hardworking man throughout his life and in his downtime liked to raise the devil.

He was an excellent auto mechanic and operated Crandall’s Automotive on Dan Main Hill for several years.

In addition he also worked at Mt. Hope Cemetery for 6 years, worked as a forklift technician for D.C. Forklift in Greene and enjoyed the woods where he logged many acres.

On March 9, 1974 in Oxford he married Donna Darling who survives. Besides his wife Donna of Norwich, he is survived by his children; Tammy Preston of Binghamton, Terry Crandall of Norwich, Kim (Kurt) Bradbury of South Plymouth, Kelly Crandall of Norwich, William Crandall Jr. of Oxford, sisters Emily Testa of Utica, Sharon Crandall of Oxford and brothers Richard Crandall of TN and Cork Crandall. Also surviving are his 21 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Buster was predeceased by his son Gerald (Jerry) Merritt, grandchildren Kristen and Jordan Crandall, sister Beverly Stone and brothers Robert, Daniel and Harold.

A service with military rites for Buster will be held on Saturday, May 12, at 1:00 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Pastor Brad Keator will officiate.

Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm.
