Anne Eleanore (gibson) Heuer


Anne E. Heuer passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, April 18 at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford, NY.

She was born Anne Eleanore Gibson in Elizabeth, New Jersey on November 13, 1922 to Elmer and Anne E. (Fowler) Gibson.

She served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marines during WWII and was Honorably Discharged in 1946. She married her best friend and soulmate, Reynold F. Heuer, Sr. on June 8, 1946 (who predeceased her in November, 1988). They raised three sons together.

She was a two-time Commander of American Legion Post #400 in Metuchen, NJ; and was active in the Madison Park Volunteer Fire Company and Ladies’ Auxiliary, PTA, Cub Scouts, taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir.

After relocating to the Norwich area in 1976 she worked in assembly at Simmonds Precision (now G.E.) where she served as recording secretary for IBEW local 2053 until her retirement in 1988. She was a long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church in Norwich.

An avid crafter, she hand-made and sent over 100 Christmas cards to friends and family every year, as well as personalized cards for birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

Also a talented seamstress, she made gowns for entire wedding parties, from the bride to the flower girl.

Ellie is survived by her three sons, Reynold Jr. and Jan Heuer of Constantine, MI; Daniel and Linda Heuer of Norwich; and James and Ann Heuer of North Brunswick, NJ. She had five grandchildren, Kimberly (Florida), Matthew (Idaho), Zoe (Colorado), Randy (Norwich), and Elizabeth (Missouri), several great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Her youngest sister Mary also survives, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 27 at Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St. Oxford NY 13830, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28 at Christ Lutheran Church, 94 N. Broad St. Norwich. A funeral service will follow at 11.
