John James Maiurano
John James Maiurano, 89, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 in Norwich.
Born on January 6, 1929, in Norwich, John was the son of Joseph and Catherine (Shecton) Maiurano. He was raised by Francis and Dominic Raffaele as their son. John was an accomplished athlete, sportsman, and loving father.
His athletic accomplishments included lettering in varsity baseball, boxing, wrestling, and football during his academic years at Norwich High School. Upon graduating from Norwich High School in 1947, he was offered a minor league baseball contract from the Boston Red Sox, but declined the offer to raise a family.
On July 24, 1948, in Norwich, John married Patricia Anne Keefe, whom survives. Together they celebrated over 70 years of marriage. John was employed as a manufacturing supervisor at Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals/Procter & Gamble for over 43 years prior to his retirement in 1991.
John is survived by his wife Patricia A. Maiurano, of Norwich, and their loving children John (Karen) Maiurano, of Gainesville, VA, Sheila (Glenn) Green, of Goshen, CT, Clark (Susan) Maiurano, of Ocala, FL, Deborah (Kevin) Hardwick, of Tonawanda, NY, and Teresa (Timothy) Woodard, of Norwich; grandchildren Tania (Christopher) Woodward, of Greenwich, NY, John (Tara) Green, of Torrington, CT, Jennifer (Brendan) Russell, of Monroe, OH, John Maiurano, of Honolulu, HI, Jason Deming Maiurano, of Honolulu, Jay (Audrey) Maiurano, of Burke, VA, Alicia Woodard, of Norwich, Jason (Samantha) Woodard, of Nanticoke, PA, Aubrey (Greg) Hill, of Tonawanda, Brian Hardwick, of Tonawanda, Jeremy (Emilie) Hardwick, of Brooklyn, NY, Matthew Hardwick, of Tonawanda; great-grandchildren Alex and Joshua Maiurano, of Burke, Lex and Logan Green, of Torrington, Juliana Hardwick, of Tonawanda, Kaile Peete and Max Hill, of Tonawanda, Ian Harsha, of Greenwich, Ariel, Jasmine, Bella and Kellan Woodward, of Greenwich; brother William “Bill” Maiurano, of Norwich; and several nieces and nephews.
A private Mass of Christian Burial for John will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wilson Funeral Home, Norwich, NY, on Thursday, April 19, 2018, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
