Marylie Lottie Aloi Cooley


Marylie Lottie Aloi Cooley, 83, a lifelong resident of Norwich, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018, at her home in Norwich, NY surrounded by her family.

Marylie was born in Norwich on May 3, 1934 the daughter of Joseph Anthony & Amy Elizabeth (Peck) Aloi . Marylie was a 1952 graduate of the Norwich High School. On August 19, 1956, in Norwich.

Marylie married her husband for almost 60 years Raymond Willis Cooley.

Marylie and her late husband Ray started a successful Real Estate Company, Ray Cooley Realty which they operated together for over 40 years. Marylie was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Norwich where she remained very active over the years. Marylie was also a former member of the Holmesville Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher.

Marylie was happiest when she had her family surrounding her. Marylie, Ray and their family were familiar faces at Chenango Lake where they enjoyed many great family gatherings. They had their first camp on the lake in 1972 and in 1978 made the lake their permanent home. Marylie and Ray would spend the winter months in Florida.

Marylie was a giving and compassionate person. She was always looking for someone to help out. Marylie opened her home to anyone needing a place to stay and enjoyed having the church youth group take over the lake on Wednesday nights.

Marylie was an avid supporter of Valley Heights Christian Academy and helped many students with their expenses over the years so they could attend.

Marylie is survived by her children: Douglas Cooley and wife Maureen of Sherburne, Jeffrey Cooley and wife Lisa of Granit Falls, NC, Cynthia Mathewson of Oneonta and Melissa Borden of Norwich. Her grandchildren: Amanda Bello and her husband Tony, Gregory Cooley and his wife Erin, Paul Cooley, Amanda Miles, Hannah Miles, Jessica Doolittle and husband Shawn, Jason Cooley and wife Lindsey, Olivia Horn and husband Kyle, Amy Rathmell and husband Pastor Joshua, Bradley Oliver and Anthony Borden. Marylie was also blessed with 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her brother John Aloi and wife Marcia of Mt. Holly, NJ and Rosalie (Aloi) Alger - her twin sister – of Norwich, NY.

Marylie was predeceased by her parents Joseph Anthony & Amy Elizabeth (Peck) Aloi her brother Joseph Junior, her sister Isabelle (Betty) Aloi, and her son-in-law Brian Mathewson.

A funeral service for Marylie will be held on Wednesday, April 18, at 12:00 (noon) at the Calvary Baptist Church of Norwich NY. Dr. Scott Davis, Pastor, along with Pastor Joshua Rathmell will officiate. Interment will be at the Maplewood Cemetery of Mt. Upton at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call at the Calvary Baptist Church on Wednesday from 10:00 am to 12:00(noon).
