Charles W. Macgillivray


Charles W. MacGillivray, 94 yrs. old of Holmesville, NY passed away on April 8, 2018 at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton, NY.
Charlie was born on May 12, 1923 in Unadilla, NY the son of Merle & Hazel (Whitney) MacGillivray. His childhood was spent in the Unadilla, Guilford, Norwich and South New Berlin areas.
He was employed as a technician at Proctor and Gamble of Norwich, NY until his retirement.
On February 21, 1964 he married Marion Sweet who survives him.
Charlie loved to hunt and fish and was a great outdoorsman. He was a member of the South New Berlin America Legion and the Norwich VFW. He served in WWII as an ambulance driver receiving the WWII Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, Charlie was a volunteer fireman on the Maydole Volunteer Fire Squad in Norwich, NY.
In addition to his wife, Charlie is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law; Lori & Loren Slater of Norwich, NY and Christine and Alvin Fleming of Smyrna, NY as well as five grandchildren; Matthew Slater, Jessica Slater, Todd Kuhn, Justin Nelson and Caitlin Fleming.
He was predeceased by his brother & sister; Walter Whitney and Phyllis Streeter.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin, NY with Reverend Larry Maxson officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the funeral service on April 12, 2018 also at the Dakin Funeral Home LP.
The interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, South New Berlin, NY at a later date.
Arrangements are by the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin, NY.
