Mary C. Blackman


Mary C. Blackman. 80, a lifelong resident of South Plymouth passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.

Mary was born in South Plymouth on March 16, 1938 the daughter of Vyral and Winifred (Elsworth) Silvernail. She has lived in South Plymouth her entire life and attended school in Kirk, Norwich and graduated in 1956 from the South Otselic High School.

Mary was a 37 year employee of the Norwich School system working in the cafeteria at the Perry Browne school for most of that time. She will fondly be remembered for her cheerful and friendly ways.

Mary was, without question, all about family. She enjoyed all of the family get togethers and her home. She found contentment and joy in caring for and watching her birds as well as her garden. An avid reader Mary could often be found with her nose in a book. For the past several years she enjoyed trips to Florida with her sister Esta and brother-in-law Sergio.

On July 15, 1961 in Mt. Rose, PA she married Carl Blackman who passed away August 10, 2012.

Mary is survived by her children, Ira (Ike) Blackman of South Plymouth, Pamela (Ron) Gilbert of Norwich, Wendi (Bill) VanOrden of South Plymouth, David Blackman and companion Katie Dyson of Oxford, her sister Esta (Sergio) Polanco of Norwich and her brother Kenneth Silvernail of Norwich.

Also surviving are her grandchildren Bill Blackman and fiancée Shona Fox, Jennifer (John) Ballard and Nicole (Joe) Crandall and her great grandchildren Owen, Colin, Megan, Ryker, Evan, Ira, Gracie, Hunter, Connor, Cayden, Ryker and Ashton. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law Adrienne Silvernail, Dawn Broderick, Fred Blackman, Lester Blackman, Grace Franklin, Helen Markham, June ManWarren, Leslie & Joyce Blackman along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service for Mary will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at 11:00 am from the Broad Street United Methodist Church. The Rev. Rachel Morse, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the South Plymouth Cemetery.

Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from 1-3, 6-8 pm.
