SOUTH PLYMOUTH – Lois May (Hall) Adams went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at Cornerstone Assisted Living Center, Phoenix, Arizona, where she has resided since July 2009 after she had suffered a stroke in April along with complications from diabetes and Alzheimer’s..
Lois was born March 2, 1927 in Norwich to Cyril A. Hall and Edith L. (Brookins) Hall. Both her parents are deceased, as is her stepmother, M. Hazel (Cummings) Hall, and her brother, Raymond A. She has no other siblings and is survived by her husband, Lawrence H. Adams, whom she married on Oct. 27, 1955.
Lois is also survived by three brothers-in-law: Richard E. of Plymouth, Douglas A. and Myrton C. Adams of Phoenix, Ariz.; three nieces: Ann & Vicki Curtis and Viki Metz in New York; and a close personal childhood chum, Betty Scott of Oxford; along with several nieces and nephews on Larry’s side of the family.
She made her home at HiAnn Farm, South Plymouth, until it was sold in October 1956. In November, 1956, Lois and Larry moved to Phoenix, Ariz.
Lois went to grade and high school in Norwich and graduated from Norwich High School in June 1945. Her first employment was as a manager and bookkeeper with the Chenango County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, where she remained for several years and then made the move to the Chenango County Fire and Windstorm Insurance Company as bookeeper, which had been co-founded by her future father-in-law, Nelson H. Adams, father of Lawrence and his three brothers.
Upon moving to Arizona, Lois continued her career in the insurance industry, employed the last 22 by Lincoln National Insurance as an administrator, where she retired after some 52 years all told in the insurance industry on March 31, 1998.
In addition to her own career, Lois worked side by side with her husband Lawrence after he left finance and banking after some 22 years in two corporations specializing in small business management consulting, business education, forensic accounting, auditing and lobbying on small business issues and those pertaining to women, children and the elderly. And finally, they worked together as private investigators and security specialists in the area of corporate, air, seaport security consultants.
Lois had many hobbies, some of which were reading mystery novels, crossword puzzles and watching old TV game shows, cooking shows (as Lois was an excellent cook) and old movies made in the early 1940s and 50s, and traveling whenever possible. Lois always looked forward to going east to her birthplace and familiar surroundings and folks she knew in Norwich and Plymouth during the months of July and August.
One of her favorites with Larry, since he had spent many a time at the fair as a 4-Her in the 1940s and 50s, was seeing the 4-H exhibits – especially the cattle – at the annual Chenango County Fair.
She had requested some time ago that no services be conducted in her honor. Lois’ ashes will be buried in the Adams family plot in South Plymouth.
