Louise M. Serafen

Louise M. Serafen, 84, formerly of Norwich, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 24, 2018 in Las Vegas, NV following a long courageous battle with her health.

She was born in New Rochelle, NY, daughter of Edward and Mary (Chiapetta) Abate.

Louise married Richard M. Serafen of Schenevus, NY on April 18, 1954. The couple settled in Norwich where they raised their family.
Many remember Louise as the owner of several popular area beauty salons.

She and Dick had numerous other business ventures as well. Louise kept busy with family, many hobbies, volunteering her talents for area productions, and substitute teaching at BOCES. Dick and Louise moved to Henderson, NV in 2001.

Always hand-in-hand, they left a legacy of their beautiful love to be admired and remembered. Friendship and adventure came easily to Louise. She never met a stranger and was loved by so many.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard M. Serafen, and by their son Richard P. (Rick) Serafen (Lisa Eddy Pinney, and husband Gregg Pinney).

Surviving are sons Steven E. Serafen (Robin, and children Allison, Alyssa and Steven Serafen); Andrew A. Serafen (Janet, and daughters Katherine and Elizabeth Serafen); daughter Elaine Serafen Marchant (Douglas and children Nathan A. Young, Lauren Marchant Cameron (Captain Glenn Cameron), and Christopher D. Marchant); and by six great-grandchildren - Layla Young, Landon and Harper Marchant, and Avery, Emmerson and Grayson Cameron. Also surviving are her sisters Judy Abate Pape (Arthur Pape) and Carole Abate Kubis (Charles Stone). Louise will be fondly remembered by her many cousins, nieces, and grand-nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend its deepest appreciation once again to Dr. Rupesh Parikh and the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada for the loving care given to Louise (and Dick) over the many years.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Nathan Adelson Hospice (4141 Swenson St., Las Vegas NV 89119; (702)- 733-0320; https://www.nah.org.

A joint graveside memorial service for both Richard and Louise will be planned for this summer in Oneonta, NY, per their sweet request.
