Michael Osowski


NORWICH – Michael J. Osowski, “Mr. O,” 43, of Waterloo, passed away unexpectedly at his home Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. 
Mike was born on Jan. 26, 1966 in Norwich, the son of Robert S. and Patricia A. Doody – Osowski. He was a 1984 graduate of Sherburne Earlville High School. He was a 1988 graduate of Ithaca College where he also received his masters’ degree. Mike or Mr. “O,” as he was called by his students, had been teaching in the Waterloo school district since 1989. He taught instrumental lessons as well as general music classes at LaFayette School for many years. This year he also taught a general music class at the Middle School; he was the accompanist for the H.S Chorus and Chorale.
He was a communicant of Saint Francis DeSales Church in Geneva; he played the organ there for the past 16 years. He was a member of The Seneca Falls Community Band. Mike was a big Yankee and Syracuse Fan and enjoyed visiting with the folks at Connie’s Diner in Waterloo.  Mr. “O” had a genuine love for children and will be greatly missed by his students, past and present, and his colleagues.
Mike is survived by his parents who live in Sherburne; his sisters, Cynthia (Mark) Gardner of Smyrna and Susan (James) Castilla of Utica; a brother, Thomas (Jenny) Osowski of Sherburne; his niece, Leigha Castilla; nephews, Andrew and Alex Castilla; aunts, Jeanne Arnold of Byron and Grace Doody of Norwich; many, loving and supportive friends and colleagues.
He is preceded in death by a nephew Samuel Osowski and his uncles, Bruce Arnold and James and Gordon Doody.
 Friends and family are invited to call Sunday, Nov. 22 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Mull Funeral Home, 113 Virginia Street, Waterloo. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 23 at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Francis DeSales Church 130 Exchange Street, Geneva. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
 In lieu of flowers, Mike’s family request memorial contributions be directed to either Saint Francis DeSales Church, 130 Exchange Street, Geneva 14456 or the Music Department at Waterloo Central School, 65 Center Street Waterloo 13165.
