Bertha Bronislawa Bluy


Bertha Bronislawa Bluy, 92, of Norwich, formerly of Johnson City, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born in Poland and attended school until she was forced at a young age to work in the work camps throughout Poland and Germany during World War II. At the conclusion of the war, Bertha and her husband, Joseph immigrated to the United States and settled in Johnson City where they lived for many years. She worked at GAF Corp and Ozalid Corp in Binghamton for many years prior to moving to Norwich. She was a member of the Norwich Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness and her deep faith in God was a sustaining force in her life and gave her constant joy. Bertha was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Bluy; and her son in law, Larry Maphis. Survivors include her sons, John and Lisa Bluy, of Norwich, and Myrone Bluy, of Norwich and Florida; her daughter, Mary Maphis, of Horseheads; her grandchildren, Michael Bluy, of Norwich, Michele Bluy, of Norwich, and Tracy and Jack Stowe, of Corning; and her great-grandchildren, Jada and Jazmin. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, February 22 at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich with Duane Golden officiating. Burial will take place privately at Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
