Mary D'ambra


Mary (Grattan) D’Ambra went home to the Lord February 7, 2018. Mary was born on May 6, 1919 in Ilion, NY a daughter of the late Louis and Alice (Burns) Grattan.
Mary spent her early years in Little Falls, NY, Albany, NY and Gloversville, NY.
She attended the Cathedral Academy in Albany before moving to Gloversville. She attended Gloversville High School for two years before moving to Oxford, NY, where she graduated from Oxford Academy in 1937. Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society of the church.
On January 22, 1941, Mary married Charles D’Ambra in St. Joseph’s Church in Oxford, NY. She was predeceased by her husband on July 25, 1995 after 54 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her twin sister, Lois Flynn in April 2000.
She is survived by her three children; Anne Spano and son in law John of Ohio, Charles D’Ambra of New York, and Elaine D’Ambra of New York; her grandchildren, John Spano, Jr. of Ohio, Lisa Spano of Florida, and Clarissa D’Ambra of New Jersey. Three nephews also survive, Dennis Flynn of Virginia, Tom Flynn and Jack Flynn of New York.
At Mary’s request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, State St., Oxford, NY.
Mary loved animals, so in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chenango County SPCA, 6160 County Road 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
