Walter Kasmarcik


Walter Kasmarcik, 84, of Norwich and former Chenango County Undersheriff, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 31, 2018, in the Valley View Manor Nursing Home with family at his side.
Walt was born on September 25, 1933 in Binghamton the son of Walter and Lillian (Morris) Kasmarcik. The early part of his life was spent in Binghamton where he attended the local schools. At the early age of 13 he moved to McDonough where he made his home with Raymond and Edna Sprague where he helped on their farm, which in later years he would own and operate. While living in McDonough he attended and graduated from the Oxford schools and also had been a graduate of the FBI Academy. Early in his working career he had been employed by the Raymond Corp. of Greene. He had worked for the Chenango County Sheriff Dept. for over 25 years and also served as Undersheriff during that time. He also served as Constable for the Town of McDonough. Following his retirement he owned and operated, along with his wife Shawnee, S&W Satellite Sales and Electronics.
Walt was extremely gifted and talented working with his hands. His woodworking was second to none. Over his life he has crafted many items from trinkets to full blown large pieces of furniture, many of which adorn his family’s homes. He was also a gifted artist having painted hundreds of paintings over the years. He was a great fan of artist, Bob Ross, who he followed religiously. He also enjoyed his fishing and hunting and trips to various casinos especially Turning Stone.
On October 15, 1981 in Norwich he married Shawnee Parker who passed away October 30, 2004.
Walt is survived by his children Francheska “Frankie” (Geoffrey) Parker of Morris, Walter (Bertha) Kasmarcik of McDonough, Kevin Kasmarcik of Plymouth, sister Sharon (Bob) Wilson of GA, brothers Victor (Delores) Kasmarcik of Port Crane, Kenneth Kasmarcik of Binghamton, Steven (Joanne) Kasmarcik of Windsor, and Stewart (Debbie) Kasmarcik of Binghamton. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren Ethan, Austin, Alexander, Matthew (Tiffany), Peter (Patti), Stephen (Jaci), Andrew (Philicia), Philip (Kelly), Amanda (Luke), Dorrianna, Ashlee (Phil), Samantha and Kevin Jr. along with many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, brother-in-law Randy Dunckel of Orlando, FL and very special “adopted” family members Erica Stadelmann and Patricia Schrader-Yaddow.
Besides his wife Shawnee, Walt was predeceased by his son Charles, sister Nancy Miller and brothers Gerald, Larry and David.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Monday, February 5, from 5-7 pm with a funeral service to follow at 7pm. Interment will be at a later date in the East Pharsalia Cemetery.
