Marjorie S. "marge" Horovitz


Marjorie S. “Marge” Horovitz, 90, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at her home.
Born on July 7, 1927, in Pittsburgh, PA, Marge was the daughter of Alvin and Bessie (Greenwald) Schwarz, and was a graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School. On June 14, 1953, in Pittsburgh, she married Herbert Horovitz. Together they would spend 39 wonderful years of marriage together before his death on November 25, 1992.
With her husband, Marge moved to Norwich in 1964 where Herbert assumed a position at The Norwich Pharmacal Company. In Norwich, while working in retail sales, Marge also raised her children, Linda and Alan, whom she absolutely adored. Marge also served for fourteen years as a clerk for the Chenango County Board of Elections. She was also active in the community having volunteered at the Chenango Memorial Hospital and as a cashier on Monday afternoons at the Northeast Classic Car Museum. Marge served for many years as Secretary to the Board of Directors of the Norwich Jewish Center and was a lifetime member of Hadassah.
Marge had a wonderful singing voice and was a talented dancer. In Pittsburgh, she performed in several musicals. Marge enjoyed life to its fullest, loved having fun, and had a great sense of humor. She was an avid golfer and bowler, and very much enjoyed visiting New York City to see Broadway musicals. She also loved eating dinner out with her daughter.
Marge is survived by her daughter, Linda Horovitz. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her husband, Marge lost her only son, Alan, when he was 17 in 1974. She was also predeceased by her sister Jean Ledner.
A funeral service for Marge will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the Norwich Jewish Center where Rabbi Dena Bodian will officiate. Burial will take place following the service at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
