Grace Runyon


Grace Ann McNeil Runyon, 88, of North Main St., passed away on December 26, 2017.
Grace was born January 8. 1929 in Norwich, daughter of Archie and Mary (McKeown) McNeil. She attended St. Paul’s School and graduated from Norwich High School in 1947. On May 29, 1948, Grace married Richard C. Runyon of Sherburne. She was employed at several local companies throughout her career, including TACO, Earlville Paper Box Co., Rogers Environmental Conservation Center, and she retired after 20 years from the Chenango County Accounting Department. She also served as an Election Clerk for many years in Sherburne and Norwich, retiring in 2011. Grace was devoted to her family and her faith, and was well known for her kindness and generosity throughout her community.
She was a dedicated member of St. Malachy’s Altar and Rosary Society and the Sherburne Legion Auxiliary, where she served as the liaison for the Legion’s Girls State Program. Grace served as the Auxiliary Hospital Equipment Chairperson for over 50 years.
Grace is survived by her children, Patricia (Jay) Whipple of Hamilton; Margaret (Gary) Elliott of Florida; Elizabeth (Donald) Marcellus of Hamilton; Richard (Cindy) Runyon of Norwich; Charles (Kathleen) Runyon of Fairport; grandchildren, J.C. (Erin), Molly, Brendon (Melissa), Graham (Jessica), Bridget, Emily (Andrew), Haley, Hannah, Richard, Shawn, Abigail, Allison; great-grandchildren Jude, Lucy, Owen, Anna, Noah, Alexis, Austin, Grayson, Teddy, and Eloise; sister-in-law, Sallie Jones of Florida, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard in December 1993, and her son, Thomas in May 1953, as well as nine siblings that include two brothers who died serving their country during World War II and the Korean War.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St. Malachy’s Church, Sherburne.
Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Norwich.
Friends are invited and may call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Friday from 4-7pm.
The rosary will be recited at 3:45 pm. The American Legion Auxiliary service will be at 4:30pm.
