Richard Fairchild


Richard D. Fairchild, 89, of McDonough, NY passed away on December 10, 2017 with his loving family by his side. Richard was born in Binghamton, NY son of the late Clark and Alice Fairchild. He married his loving wife Ruth Maine Fairchild on October 15, 1955 in West Edmeston, NY. Richard is predeceased by his wife Ruth, his daughter Susan Eccleston, his brother Don Fairchild and his sisters Beverly Fairchild and Barbara Fairchild Hupman. He is also predeceased by his grandchildren Herb, Charlie, and Robert J Fairchild II.
Richard is survived by his sons Robert Jon and Billie Jo Fairchild, and James Edward and Tierney Fairchild. He is survived by his daughter Linda Beth and Charles Mead. Richard is also survived by his sister June and Jack Hendrickson and his grandchildren Matthew, Derek, Rebecca, Alison, Maegan, Kasey, Macey, Amy, Lucas, Kory, Alicia, Hillary and John. She is also survived by 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Richard was a previous master of the Kelley, Pomona and NY State Granges, and was a life long member and treasurer of the United Methodist Church of McDonough. He was the voting machine custodian for 45+ years and managed the McDonough Union Cemetery for 40+ years. Richard worked on his family farm in his younger years and was a dedicated community member, he was always willing to help a neighbor or friend in need. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and spending time with his family.
Richard’s family would like to give a very special thank you to his caregiver Edith Mullins for all her love and compassion and wonderful care given to Richard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richards name can be made out to the United Methodist Church of McDonough.
Friends and family may call at the United Methodist Church of McDonough on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 11:00 AM- 1:00PM. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev.
