Mildred Underwood


Mildred (Millie) Underwood, 92, of South Plymouth passed away Monday evening, December 11, 2017, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital with family at her side.
Millie was born in Norwich on June 17, 1925 the daughter of William and Ruth (Webb) Lorimer. Growing up in No. Norwich she attended the Norwich Schools and was a 1942 graduate of the Norwich High School. During her high school years she was a member of the high school band where she played the drums. Over the years Millie had worked for the Norwich Knitting Mill, the Norwich Shoe Co. and Norwich Pharmaceutical Co. Following her retirement she spent several winters in Florida.
Millie was all about her family, especially her grandchildren. A lover of horses she enjoyed going to horse shows in which her girls would show their own horses. A lover of country music, you could often walk into her home where you would find her sitting listening to her favorite artist and tapping her foot to the beat. She was also a door to door sales lady for Avon and enjoyed traveling the country side going to garage sales.
Millie is survived by her children; John (Jack) Humphrey of Norwich, Laurie (Mark) Bennett of South Plymouth, Mari Underwood of Sherburne, Donna (Dennis) Tefft of Milford, NY and Darlene Eaton of Ill. Also surviving are her 13 grandchildren Brian Bennett, Scott Bennett, Harold Humphrey, Krystal Powell, Shaun Whaley, Tad Whaley, Jenna Parker, Gary Whaley, Marinda Underwood, Chad Underwood, Jennifer Bruce, Jacob Tefft and Brandy Eaton along with 12 great grandchildren.
Millie was predeceased by 2 children Barbara Whaley and Douglas Jr. and granddaughter Ashley Tefft.
A funeral service for Millie will be held on Saturday, December 16, at 11 am from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate. Interment will follow in the North Norwich Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
A celebration of Millie’s life will be held on Saturday from 1-4 pm at the North Norwich Town Hall immediately following the burial. All are welcome.
The pall bearers for Millie will be her grandsons; Brian, Chad, Shaun, Gary, Tad and Harold.
