Christine Bates


Christine L Bates, of Norwich, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY.
Born in Cortland, NY, on June 9, 1951, Christine was the daughter of Charles and Rose Wellman, of Sherburne, each of whom survives. She was the oldest of eight children. On June 29, 1969, she married Richard J Bates, who passed away March 1, 2015. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her siblings Charlie (Malin) Wellman, of Leniore, NC, Patricia (Ralph) MacBlain, of Sherburne, Lucinda (Randy) Keyes, of Plymouth, LaMott (Kathy) Wellman, of Sherburne, Ralph “Bummy” (Gina) Wellman, of Edenton, NC, and John (Sherry) Wellman, of Norwich. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as her special friends Shelley Wickham, Jayne Starrs Baker, Joyce and Dan Decker, and Lisa L. Ward, and her dogs Sam “Red” and Kinsey. Christine was predeceased by brother Thomas Wellman.
Christine was a locally-known artist for many years, and also worked at many and various occupations starting at age sixteen. Christine put her heart and soul into everything she endeavored to do. Her smile could light up any room she entered, and she will leave a big hole in the lives of her family, co-workers, and friends.
Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday, December 4, 2017, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. There will be no funeral service. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
