Barbara Bonno

NORWICH – Barbara Summa Bonno, 54, of Norwich, died peacefully at her home on Nov. 3, 2009, after a long illness.
Barb was born in Watertown, on Nov. 7, 1954 to Dr. Andrew J. Summa and Anne O’Brien Summa who predeceased her. Barb was a 1972 graduate of Immaculate Heart Central High School and then attended Jefferson Community College, both in Watertown. Growing up in the “North Country,” Barb’s greatest childhood joy was spending summers at her family’s beloved Adams Cove cottage on Lake Ontario and annual visits to the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River. Boating, waterskiing, and swimming were activities she loved. As an adult, Barb continued spending time on the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario, and Norwich area lakes.  Barb was a gifted decorator, and avid arts and crafts enthusiast.
For many years, Barb was an Office Manager for medical practices in the Norwich area, retiring due to ill health.
Barb is survived by her son, Chris Bonno of Norwich; her brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Tina Summa, Conklin; her nephew, A.J. Summa, Jersey City, N.J.; and many cousins.  Barb also leaves many friends who were central to her life, including her caregiver Debbie Wiggins, and life-long friend, Margie Hough.
Barb’s family would like to thank Dr. Howard Simon and the medical staff at University Hospital in Syracuse as well as the medical staff at Georgetown Medical Center in Washington, DC for the wonderful care they gave Barb over the past several years.
A prayer service for Barb will be held at noon on Saturday at the Wilson Funeral Home in Norwich.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Rev. Ralph Bove, Pastor of St. Bartholomew and St. Paul’s Churches, will officiate.
