Michael John Raphael

With heavy heart the family and friends of Michael John Raphael announce the passing of our son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle and friend.
Michael was freed from the pain of cancer, Autism and Crohn’s disease on November 19, 2017. He was handed back to his Heavenly Father and Savior for the work the Lord has for him.
Michael was born September 9, 1990 in Norwich, NY to Robert Charles Raphael Jr. and Vicki Lynn Carpenter Raphael. He graduated from Norwich High School in 2008.
When he was 12 years old he chose a path of helping people. He worked to educate others about those with disabilities. The path wasn’t always easy, but worthwhile.
He earned his Eagle Scout by planning and carrying out a disability fair.
Catholic Charities asked him to be an advocate for people with disabilities, which he loved. He befriended and helped many people.
Michael was an avid member of the Chenango Chapter of the New York State Archaeological Association and enjoyed going on digs with the group.
We’re reminded of the hymn “Each Life That Touches Ours For Good”. Michael taught us to care for others, be patient, and love our Savior.
Michael was predeceased by paternal grandparents Robert Sr. and Verna Weidman Raphael. Maternal grandparents Harry and Luella Wilken Carpenter, father Robert Raphael Jr., sister Sarah Louise, brother Chandler Thomas Raphael and Uncle Jon Carpenter.
Surviving are his mother Vicki Carpenter Raphael, brother Marc (Rachel) Raphael of Virginia, sister Rebecca of Virginia, brother Matthew (Kathryn) Raphael of Tennessee, Uncle Morris (Diane) Raphael, Aunt Candace (James) Sheffer and 6 cousins, 9 nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.
